WEST COAST STEINER SCHOOL
CELEBRATING 25 YEARS IN 2020
West Coast Steiner School is celebrating it’s 25th Birthday next Tuesday August 4.
A Brief History of the West Coast Steiner School Early Years
The West Coast Steiner School was established in 1995 by a group of committed parents inspired with the ideals of Steiner / Waldorf education who were passionate about their children experiencing a truly holistic education. The school was officially registered on August 4, 1995 whilst operating as a playgroup in a Masonic Hall in Shenton Park.
Its genesis started even earlier as a northern suburbs Waldorf playgroup in the 1980s, with a group of parents motivated by the first “Vital Years Conference”. There was a “Northern Suburbs Waldorf Playgroup” newsletter and 3 Playgroup sessions per week. Eventually as Playgroup leaders relocated the Playgroup ceased until it re-emerged in Shenton Park.
In 1996, the West Coast Steiner School moved to its current premises in Nollamara. Two classrooms were leased in an unused pre-primary section of the Nollamara Primary School. In 1997 we had our first Class 1.
Flash forward to 2020 and we now own the premises in Nollamara and have 4 Playgroup sessions per week, 4 Kindergarten Programs, single-stream Classes 1-6, a Woodwork Room, a Library and Learning Support Space, a Performance Room, nature space playgrounds and a Community Shop and Hub.
On August 4th we are having a birthday celebration which involves activities for the students during the day (circus skills, clay work, cooking) and then from 2.30pm parents will come for student performances (choir and orchestra), a time capsule dedication and birthday cake.
