Finalists in Australian Teacher Aides Awards
Mumbulla School in Bega are thrilled to announce that their team of Teaching Assistants (TAs) has been selected as the NSW finalist in the prestigious Australian Teacher Aides Awards.
“We are incredibly proud of their exceptional contribution to our school and the positive impact they have on our students’ learning and wellbeing”, said Reagan White, Education Manager.
The twelve TAs are an integral part of the school community, catering to the diverse needs and abilities of students across the school. They play a crucial role in supporting teachers and students, ensuring an inclusive and effective learning environment.
Here are few of the key ways the Mumbulla School TAs help contribute to student success:
Facilitating Small Group Instruction: The TAs work closely with small groups of students, providing additional instruction and support. They reinforce concepts taught by the teacher, answer questions, and offer individualised guidance to ensure effective learning.
Differentiating Instruction: By adapting lessons and materials to meet diverse student needs, the TAs assist in implementing differentiated instruction strategies. This tailored instruction helps every student learn and succeed.
Supporting Social and Emotional Development: Our TAs contribute to creating a nurturing and supportive classroom environment. They promote positive social interactions, teamwork, conflict resolution, and help students develop important social and emotional skills such as empathy, self-regulation, and resilience. They play a crucial role in implementing inclusive practices in the classroom.
Collaborating with Parents/Guardians: Acting as a link between teachers, students, and families, the TAs communicate regularly with parents/guardians. They share progress updates and discuss individual student needs, strengthening the home-school connection and ensuring a holistic approach to student development.
Behaviour Support: The TAs help students understand and follow classroom rules and expectations. They implement behaviour management strategies, offer guidance, and use positive reinforcement techniques to promote positive behaviour and create a conducive learning environment.
In addition to their incredible contributions in the classroom, four of the Mumbulla School TAs specialise in working one-on-one with children who need extensive assistance due to their disabilities. They provide vital support in areas such as communication, personal care, and social and emotional development.
The dedication, expertise, and passion of the Mumbulla School TAs have been recognised through their selection as finalists in the Australian Teacher Aides Awards. Their profound positive impact on student learning and wellbeing is evident in the Mumbulla School inclusive school environment where students thrive academically and develop vital social and emotional skills, setting them on a path to success.
Reagan White said, “We would like to express our sincere gratitude to our incredible Teaching Assistants for their commitment and dedication to our students’ success. Their tireless efforts make our school a richer learning environment, and we are truly proud to have them as part of our team. We wish them the best of luck in the final stage of the Australian Teacher Aides Awards.”
