Class 4 Mapping Main Lesson

Class 4 walking the boundaries

Every morning Class Four has been exploring our local bushland.  We are doing a Mapping Main Lesson.  We began by mapping the classroom and then the whole school!  We measured the boundaries and explored the landmarks and the lay of the land.  We learned about perimeter, scale and how a key can tell someone how to read a map.  This week we are completing the Main Lesson through discovering the local flora and fauna.  We are using the Bunurong names to identify them.  We watched while Warren (wombat) took a drink from the creek behind our school.  Waaki (crow) accompanied us!  Willabee (wallaby) also made a brief appearance.  On Friday we will learn more about the local flora and fauna with Bunurong woman, Sonia Marie, as she takes us through her bush foods garden at Selby Community house.  We will each plant something in the garden and learn about the uses of bush medicine by First Nations people.
