The Little Yarra Ensemble heading to Europe in 2019

The Little Yarra Steiner School is a K – 12 school in rural Victoria, Australia. We have a diverse and dynamic music program with a particularly strong emphasis on our string program.

About 20 years ago we created the Little Yarra Ensemble (LYE), with the objective to create  positive musical experiences for youth. Whilst the school’s musical program is primarily focused on a more traditional /classical basis, the ensemble works with a mixture of classical, folk and world music. LYE has toured extensively within Australia and internationally, sharing our student’s musical passion by offering workshops and performances with other Waldorf Schools.  We have released three CDs and have performed for the Dalai Lama when he visited Australia.

We have always had the vision to travel to Europe, where Waldorf Education originated, and the celebration of the Waldorf 100 seems to be the perfect opportunity to create this experience. We applied for our students to part of the Metamorphoses Celebration in the Templedom in Berlin on the 19th September 2019, and we are really pleased to announce that LYE students have been selected to take part in that performance. We plan to tour a number of Steiner Schools throughout Germany for approximately 2 weeks beforehand, with the finale and highlight being our participation in this fantastic celebration.

We would really like to acknowledge the help and support that the SEA played in helping our dream becoming a reality.
