Position Overview

Shearwater, the Mullumbimby Steiner School is currently seeking a number of engaging and experienced High School teachers to commence with our 2023 school year. Each position is a job share on a one year term, but there is the possibility of extension.

You would be joining a collective of teachers dedicated to providing an imaginative approach to teaching and learning based on Steiner’s pedagogical insights, within a dynamic and progressive Steiner educational environment.

We have the following teaching roles available:

  • Science (0.4FTE, 2 day a week job share)
  • Maths (0.3FTE, 3 day a week job share)
  • HSIE (0.5FTE, 5-day fortnight job share

Ideal candidates will be inspired by Steiner education and dedicated to continuous improvement and reflective practices. Candidates must hold relevant teaching qualifications and  experience and a NESA accreditation. While Steiner experience or qualifications are not essential, a willingness to learn is required. Support and guidance will be provided to successful candidates without a Steiner background.

Appointments will be subject to a satisfactory Working with Children Check as required under the Child Protection (Working With Children) Act 2012.

Shearwater, the Mullumbimby Steiner School is ideally located among the green hills of the Byron Shire hinterland near the town centre of Mullumbimby, which is situated just off the M1, between Coolangatta International and Ballina airports.

Shearwater is one of the largest Steiner schools in Australia – a double-stream, independent, co-educational, NESA-accredited day school, with an enrolment of over 700 students and 125 staff.

Established in 1993, Shearwater has grown to include Playgroup through to Year 12. Our beautiful 52-acre site includes creek-side riparian rainforest and extensive gardens and wildlife corridors, as well as a working biodynamic farm. Shearwater offers quality staff education, including a mentorship program, ongoing professional development opportunities, artistic activities, workshops, events and courses.
