High School English Teacher (Full- time)
Samford Valley Steiner School is seeking an experienced English teacher to commence in a full-time time teaching role in 2020.
The chosen candidate will have strong English and literacy discipline knowledge appropriate for high school curriculum and be passionate about working with young people to help them develop into informed, creative, thinking members of the community. At Samford Valley Steiner School, we aim to educate students in a balanced way; all our students work in art, music, drama, science, math, craft and movement right through to Class 12. The English curriculum is designed to complement and integrate with the other curriculum areas. The successful candidate will deliver the English Steiner Curriculum from Classes 8 to 11. Samford Valley Steiner School currently runs the New Zealand Certificate of Steiner Education for year 10-12 so a willingness and openness to learn and work with this new curriculum is necessary. Current teacher registration in Queensland is essential, and previous experience in Steiner Education highly desirable.
SVSS is situated in the beautiful, rural setting of Samford Valley, and yet is still located in close proximity to Brisbane CBD; a vibrant, multicultural, cosmopolitan city. The beautiful sandy beaches of the Sunshine Coast are only one and a half hours to the north and the beaches of the Gold Coast and Northern New South Wales are one to two hours to the south. The school is situated on 20 acres of forested land along Samford Creek.
The school is 30 years old and is a strong and vibrant educational facility providing an authentic Steiner Education to students from Pre-Prep through to Class 12. Student numbers are 394 and growing. Our 11th cohort of Year 12s are set to graduate at the end of 2019. Our curriculum is based on the Australian Steiner School Curriculum Framework from P-10 and we strive to deliver an authentic Waldorf schooling right to the end of high school; including classes 11 and 12. We have an enthusiastic and passionate staff body, combining youth and experience and a stable organisational structure. The College of Teachers sits at the heart of the structure and advises a Senior Leadership Team, comprising of representatives of the different areas of the school, and a Director who is accountable to a governance Board.
