Head of Teaching and Learning K-12

Head of Teaching and Learning: K-12

Aurora School is located in Bowral, NSW, in the heart of the stunning Southern Highlands region just south of Sydney. We are a small, young, still growing, K-10 school currently running a mix of single stream and composite classes. Most importantly, we have a dynamic and caring staff who come together under a Steiner framework to collegially deliver outcomes for our students. Aurora is a great environment to work and thrive.

Our developing high school is designed to be a project based experiential curriculum, based in contemporary Steiner methods, with the International Baccalaureate Diploma being delivered for Years 11 and 12 from 2023. We have some important milestones ahead of us – 2022 will see the addition of Year 10 and RoSA, the application for registration of Years 11 and 12, and completion of the application to deliver the International Baccalaureate Diploma from 2023. Much of this work is already well underway and the successful candidate will be well supported to see these projects to completion.

We are seeking a dedicated and innovative educational leader to become our Head of Teaching and Learning. This role reports to the Principal and additionally to the Board, working alongside the Principal with a spirit of collegiality in a Senior Leadership team structure, to further build our school and deliver the goals of the strategic plan. This is a unique and exciting opportunity to join our current dynamic school as a leader, with further potential opportunities as we grow and achieve our aim of a successful K-12 Steiner School by 2024.

Aurora staff work collaboratively and professionally with a strong focus on student learning and a love of children. We are committed to developing a healthy, purposeful education for today’s world and challenging students to continually improve. Our rich learning program across the grades includes specialist teachers in many areas. Students in Years 9 and 10 will participate in the Duke of Edinburgh Award.

The College of Teachers are tasked with embedding a Steiner-based pedagogy across the school and assisting teachers with student matters. As the Head of Teaching and Learning you will work alongside the College of Teachers to oversee curriculum compliance and student engagement, while also engaging with the school community, inspiring and connecting people, and communicating the school’s vision and journey. You will work collaboratively with the various stakeholders across the school, working within the school’s culture of collaboration and service.

Highly desirable skills include:

  • Knowledge, understanding, and passion for the high school years
  • A commitment to Steiner education
