Head of School – Cairns Hinterland Steiner School
Cairns Hinterland Steiner School seeks to appoint an experienced Head of School to lead and grow our beautiful school. CHSS is a K-8 Steiner school in its 21st year, nestled amongst rainforest with a vibrant community and dedicated staff who remain true to the spirit and intention of the educational impulses and insights offered by Rudolf Steiner. The school creates a place where goodness, beauty and truth permeate the pedagogical, physical and social fabrics.
Through a balanced, well-rounded education of the highest quality based on a deep understanding of the stages in childhood development and the child as a whole human being, we support each child’s unique gifts and emerging potentials to unfold in the faculties of thinking, feeling and willing – head, heart and hands.
The Head of School will have a sound understanding of, and commitment to working out of, and cultivating, the impulse of Steiner education. They will foster the application of the principles of Steiner education and the underlying philosophy in the everyday school learning environment. They will have the capacity to work collaboratively and uphold the mission, vision and values of the School as they lead it into the future. To qualify, the candidate must be registered with Queensland College of Teachers and have leadership experience in an independent school.
The Head of School is supported by the Board of Directors, a Senior Leadership team and the College of Teachers and guided by CHSS Constitution and current Strategic Plan. Each of these organs of the school represent distributed leadership centres and the Board desires a Head of School that can continue to work towards a collaborative leadership model that our current Head of School has been developing. The position is a full-time position with yearly tracking against Key Performance Indicators and with remuneration reflecting the experience of the successful applicant. The school emerges from a difficult financial period, stronger and maturing with evolving structures. A successful Head of School has the capacity to lead this transformation and change.
Far North Queensland is a unique and wonderful place to live as a gateway to the World Heritage listed Daintree Rainforest and Great Barrier Reef and access to excellent services, retail, hospitality and a domestic and international airport. Cairns Hinterland Steiner School, based in Kuranda (approximately 20kms from Cairns) has the enviable position of a bush school set amongst 40 acres of rainforest and surrounded by natural beauty. The early childhood, primary and high school campus are nestled amongst landscaped gardens, grassed ovals, nature-based play areas and large vegetable gardens. Many families have moved from other states, cities and internationally to join us and if you are considering a tree change, we are happy to provide advice. Our current families come from Cairns, Kuranda, Mareeba and surrounds to attend our school with dedicated bus services offered.
