- Primary Classes – Prep to Class 3
- Commencing 2022
- Part-time – over 2 or 3 days / week
The role of the French teacher in Prep and the younger primary years is to bring French alive for the children, introducing them to the key elements of the language in an immersive experience through which they can feel the music of the language and its expressive qualities.
The focus should be on oral work; greetings, songs, poems, games, role plays and acting out stories. Writing is introduced through known poems or words (Order: speaking; writing; reading), with grammar beginning in class 4. Alphabet, counting, days of the week and other focused word groups can be introduced simultaneously to when they occur in the English curriculum, which can be orchestrated with the timetable or in consultation with individual teachers. This can be much more powerful than when learnt separately.

Key qualities: enthusiasm for the language, warmth for the children, working with the French department and with the class teachers to bring French alive within and outside of the lessons.
