Orana Steiner School (Orana) is an independent, co-educational and non-denominational school set in 16 hectares of unique, natural landscape in Weston, an inner south suburb of Canberra. The school was founded in 1981 and currently has an enrolment of approximately 640 students from pre-preschool (aged 3 years old) to Year 12.
Our educational philosophy focuses on the growth and development of the whole child. Our students are provided with an age-appropriate curriculum that meets their developmental needs. As well as providing a stimulating environment for the study of a broad range of subjects, we strive to nourish the intellectual, emotional, physical and spiritual development of our students.
The Early Childhood Teaching Position
We are inviting applications for teaching positions in our Early Childhood program from thecommencement of Term 1, 2020.
The role of the Early Childhood Teacher at Orana is to provide an age appropriate learning environment for children aged between three and six years old, based on Rudolf Steiner’s indications. The curriculum aims to establish rhythm, support child-initiated creative play and to develop life skills and social skills. The teacher also has an important role in supporting the child’s transition into Class One.
We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated teacher who possesses the passion for learning and teaching including outdoor activities. Experience in Steiner education is an advantage but not a requirement, however willingness to undertake professional learning in Steiner education is essential.
- Qualified teacher, minimum 4 years trained with a Bachelor of Education degree
- Hold or be eligible for the ACT Teacher Registration (TQI) and ACT Working With Children Check (WWVP)
- Enthusiasm and dedication to the Steiner curriculum
- A commitment to supporting and promoting Orana’s ethos
- A positive attitude towards children and a love of teaching
- Interpersonal and communication skills of a high standard
- A demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and inclusively
- Excellent organizational skills
