Class Two Teacher

We are seeking an experienced Steiner Primary School Teacher for an on-going, full-time position, beginning as soon as practical and continuing through to the end of Class 6.  Responsibilities include covering all aspects of the Class curriculum following the Australian Steiner Curriculum Framework with the support of specialist teachers who take PE, Music, Gardening, Craft, Japanese and German subjects.

For this position training and familiarity in Steiner pedagogy is highly desirable and duties will include planning, delivery and assessing all Main lessons, some practice sessions and afternoon classes, and organising additional events and  festivals as required. Personal qualities should include an affinity with Anthroposophical ideas, a consistent approach to discipline, diligence in associated administrative tasks and a positive, adaptable nature. Demonstrable competence in working with colleagues and parents is also a necessary pre-requisite.

Tarremah is a well-established, vibrant independent school situated fifteen minutes south of Hobart, in close proximity to a nature reserve, beaches and Mt Wellington. The school has turned thirty and is governed by a dynamic and capable group of community members and managed collaboratively by an Executive group consisting of Faculty representatives, the Business Manager, Education Administrator and School Chairs following a republican model. All those in positions of authority are called upon to aspire to a spirit of service inspired by ideals of inclusivity, the cultivation of the individual and care for the collective ‘good’.

Tarremah offers classes from Kindergarten to Class 10 and has a school population of around 310 students. Our location allows us to take advantage of Tasmania’s wilderness, world heritage areas, coastlines and indigenous cultural sites. The city of Hobart offers a vibrant cultural life that rivals larger cities, while it’s smaller size makes more of this culture accessible to everyone.

The successful applicant for this position will need to be registered as a teacher in Tasmania and hold a current Tasmanian Working With Vulnerable People card and relevant First Aid training. Application process and Position Description with Selection Criteria are available on the school’s website: or by ringing the school on (03) 6229 7007.
