Cairns Hinterland Steiner School is seeking an experienced high school Maths/Science teacher for a High School Guardian and Teaching role to start in Term 1 2023.

About Cairns Hinterland Steiner School (CHSS)

CHSS is an independent school situated in Kuranda offering Kindergarten to Class 10. Currently delivering the Australian Steiner Curriculum Framework to Class 9 and the Certificate of Steiner Education (CSE), an approved tertiary pathway, in Class 10.  It is the School’s Vision to grow to Class 12 delivering the CSE in the senior years and it is our aspiration that the high school teacher will be able to extend into Class 11 and 12 when the time comes. 

We are a co-educational and non-denominational school offering a curriculum based on the educational insights of Rudolf Steiner. In the high school, we embrace a phenomenological / experiential approach to learning which maintains curiosity and creativity. We aim to support each individual, with an understanding of their stage in adolescent development and with this understanding, we encourage each adolescent’s unique gifts and emerging potentials to become an adult who knows who they are and that they have a place in the world.

The position

Cairns Hinterland Steiner School is seeking an experienced high school teacher with a Math/Science background to implement the curriculum as outlined by the School in accordance with the Australian Steiner Curriculum Framework to Class 9 and the Certificate of Steiner Education for Class 10 onwards. 

The incumbent is expected to work in close cooperation with the Head of School and be a contributing member of the College of Teachers in accordance with the school’s values, policies and procedures. 

We are seeking an experienced teacher with exemplary skills and qualities to fill this position. The successful applicant will have an understanding of Steiner pedagogy and philosophy along with a commitment to professionalism in their work. 

The role requirements are:

  • Fully registered Teacher (Queensland) or eligibility for registration as a teacher with the Queensland College of Teachers (QCT)
  • Teach with or be open to teaching with an anthroposophical approach to each adolescent’s developmental needs and welfare
  • Be committed to ongoing individual and collaborative professional development, including Steiner Education
  • Demonstrate a high level of written and verbal communication skills
  • Be responsible for maintaining positive relationships with colleagues, parents/guardians and participate actively in the life of the school community
  • Previous experience as a Steiner Teacher is preferred but not essential
