This masterclass focuses trauma informed and systems-aware leading practices to embed sustainable change towards student engagement, wellbeing and learning in Steiner schools.
The Masterclass is part of the SEA 2023 Leadership Development Program and is open to anyone who guides practice implementation and supports staff development and growth within their own school: teachers, principals, colleges, assistant principals, lead teachers, wellbeing leaders, allied education professionals.
This Masterclass has been specifically designed to provide a space for experiential learning, and personal and professional leadership development. It offers practical, evidence-informed ways for leaders to encourage and enable whole staff commitment to sustainable change towards helping children and young people meet their own needs for learning in healthy ways.
In this Masterclass you will
- Learn about the significance of a trauma-informed and systems-aware leadership strategy which is in line with the ‘collaboration and shared responsibility’ foundations of school leadership and governance in Steiner schools in Australia. This significance particularly relates to meeting complexities of the contemporary Steiner school context
- Develop capacity to implement trauma-informed and systems-aware change aligned with your school’s strategic plans- through a community of practice approach
- Build capacity to lead for continuous revitalisation of Steiner teaching and learning practices for inclusion and equity
There will be pre-reading sent to all registered participants prior to the start of the masterclass. Materials will also be provided for use back at schools to help embed the concepts and practices developed over the two days together.
About Dr Tom Brunzell (MST, EdM, PhD) Tom began his teaching career and research into helping vulnerable students at NYC P.S. in the Bronx. He also completed a Foundation Year in Steiner education during this time. Tom joined Berry Street Victoria in Melbourne 2011 and completed his education year at the Melbourne Seminar. He developed the Berry Street Education Model for the use by wider schools. Tom presents internationally on topics of transforming school cultures, high expectations for differentiated instruction, trauma-informed practice, wellbeing and the application of positive psychology, and effective school leadership. He has completed a PhD at the University of Melbourne, studying trauma-informed pedagogy, positive psychology, and impacts on workplace meaning.
