The new national reform agenda for education has reconfirmed their focus, placing assessment front and centre. We are now seeing formative assessment as part of the national dialogue with an increasing emphasis on Learning Progressions.

In the past we have discussed the relationship Steiner Education has to assessment, it is time to redirect the conversation to how is Steiner education is going to incorporate assessment practices within schools.

During this workshop we will review how we can derive positional statements for our schools on assessment practices, what is needed to develop a consistent framework for assessment that supports both teachers and schools. Most importantly, we will workshop how to develop formative assessment tools that integrate with Steiner education pedagogy and curriculum.

This will be a highly interactive session that will require individual and small group work. We will be using rapid iteration processes for developing assessment tools and framework outlines. Please come ready to participate and share work product!

Matthew Cunnane has over 25 years experience in Steiner education as a teacher and school leader. He has served on the board of Steiner Education Australia and as their Education officer. Currently, he is working as an academic at the University of Melbourne and the University of the Sunshine Coast, while pursuing his PhD at RMIT.
